Ports create social media frenzy

The Telangana government did not ask for a share of the coastal corridor or ports in Andhra Pradesh, despite speculation on social media and news channels. Some opposition parties are spreading misinformation to create confusion. Both Congress and BJP leaders have stated that no such proposal exists and it is not legally possible.

The recent meeting between the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh aimed to resolve issues outlined in the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act. Sources from the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board clarified that there are specific acts governing the development of maritime and port resources in the state, including the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board Act passed in 2018.

The board focuses on overall development of port areas and related industrialization. Telangana, being a landlocked state, may have expressed interest in having designated ports for its exports and imports. However, officials believe that since Telangana already has a dry port, connecting with ports in Andhra Pradesh should not be a major issue.

Overall, there is no official proposal from Telangana for a share in Andhra Pradesh’s ports, and any claims suggesting otherwise are likely false.
