Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief Kishan Reddy has announced that the central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is ready to conduct a population census. He also assured that the women’s reservation law would be implemented before the upcoming Parliament and Assembly elections.
Speaking at an International Women’s Day event organized by the BJP, Reddy said that some political parties are spreading false claims about reservations. He clarified that there would be no reduction in the number of seats and that reservations would be properly implemented through re-delimitation.
He urged the BRS and Congress parties to stop misleading the public. He also recalled that the Home Minister had informed the Union Cabinet that opposition parties were making baseless allegations about the population census. Reddy reassured that the number of parliamentary seats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh would remain unchanged—17 in Telangana and 25 in Andhra Pradesh.
Regarding the upcoming local body elections in Telangana, Reddy encouraged women to contest for all positions. He urged them to take an active role in governance, from gram panchayat wards to district panchayat seats. He also advised women to compete not just for reserved seats but for general ones as well. Additionally, he emphasized that only those actively working in political parties at the grassroots level should be given opportunities to contest.
