Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former MLA, Jaipal Yadav, appeared before the police in connection with the ongoing investigation into a phone tapping scandal. The police recorded Yadav’s statement, in which he admitted to having a close relationship with Tirupatanna, a police officer who has already been arrested in the case.
Yadav, however, claimed that he was unaware of any phone tapping activities. He told the investigators that he had shared some phone numbers with Tirupatanna, but didn’t know that they would be used for tapping. The questioning session reportedly lasted for over two hours, and Yadav’s statement was recorded.
This makes Yadav the second BRS leader to be questioned in the case. Earlier, former MLA and BRS leader Chirumarthi Lingaiah had also appeared before the police on Thursday. The police are summoning politicians based on call records of four individuals who have already been arrested.
So far, three suspended police officers and a retired officer are in judicial custody in connection with the case, which surfaced in March. The investigation continues, with police reportedly acting on new evidence from a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report.
Lingaiah was questioned about an alleged phone conversation with suspended Additional Superintendent of Police, Mekala Thirupathanna, who is one of the key accused in the case.
