Road Safety Awareness Programme Held in Kothagudem
As part of National Road Safety Month, the Kothagudem Sub-Division Police organized an awareness event for motorists at Prakasam Stadium on Thursday. The programme aimed to educate auto drivers, students, and other motorists about road safety.
The event was conducted under the guidance of District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohith Raju and Kothagudem Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rahman. SP Rohith Raju emphasized the importance of following road safety rules to prevent accidents, which are often caused by reckless driving.
The SP visited stalls set up at the event to explain safety guidelines to students. He highlighted the need for wearing helmets and seat belts while driving and pointed out that many lives are lost each year due to careless driving.
SP Rohith Raju also identified common causes of road accidents, such as rash driving, drunk driving, overloading, and taking the wrong routes. Over 500 auto drivers attended the event wearing their khaki uniforms, transforming the stadium into a sea of khaki.
The SP encouraged auto drivers to take advantage of government insurance schemes and reminded them of their unique role in maintaining public safety. He urged them to follow traffic rules and act responsibly in their interactions with the public and the police.
In addition, the SP requested citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the police, stressing the importance of community vigilance in ensuring safety.
As part of the event, stickers with information about drivers were unveiled for 8,000 autos across the district. The SP instructed all auto drivers to affix these stickers to their vehicles.
The programme also featured cultural performances, including songs about traffic awareness, presented by the police art troupe and artists from the district civic relations department. These events added a creative touch to the awareness campaign and were well-received by attendees.
