Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, Central Zone team, recently arrested a man from the ‘Irani Gang’ who was posing as a police officer. The man, identified as Jaffar Ali, also known as Lambu, is 36 years old and resides in Irani Gally, Bidar, Karnataka. During the arrest, the police recovered Rs 95,000, a fake Karnataka State police ID card, and other items from his possession.

Jaffar Ali is a habitual offender with a history of criminal activities. He is known to impersonate a police officer to deceive people carrying cash. His method involves stopping individuals under the pretense of checking for counterfeit currency and then stealing part of their money. The police were able to detect five cases linked to him in various police stations across Hyderabad, including Begum Bazar, Sultan Bazar, Afzalgunj, Kulsumpura, and Langar Houz. He has also been involved in six similar cases reported in Karnataka.

To carry out his crimes, Jaffar Ali would present a fake police ID card and claim that he needed to conduct a routine check for suspicious materials. He would inspect the victim’s cash, pretending to verify its authenticity. While doing so, he would discreetly steal a portion of the money and return the rest before quickly fleeing the scene.

Based on reliable information, the Task Force team, along with Begum Bazar police, set up a trap in Begum Bazar. They managed to catch Jaffar Ali in the act while he was attempting to deceive another man.
