Former Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy recently joined the Congress party in Hyderabad, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy present at the event. There is speculation that he may soon be appointed to the Cabinet. Srinivas Reddy is a prominent leader in the old Nizamabad district, and the Congress is looking to strengthen its presence there after losing the Nizamabad MP seat to the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Srinivas Reddy played a crucial role in the Telangana movement in the early 2000s, helping the BRS become a significant force in the region. With a strong following and support base in the old Nizamabad district, his entry into the Congress is seen as a strategic move by the party to consolidate its position.
Having served in various ministerial positions in the past, including as Agriculture minister in the KCR government, Srinivas Reddy is considered a frontrunner for one of the six vacant spots in Revanth Reddy’s Cabinet. Despite efforts by other Congress leaders to secure a ministerial berth, it appears that Srinivas Reddy may be the preferred choice. Additionally, there are indications that his son, Nizamabad DCCB Chairman P Bhaskar Reddy, will also be given an opportunity to contest in the next Assembly elections.
