Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker, Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy, visited the Nizamsagar Project in Nizamsagar Mandal of Kamareddy District. He mentioned that the project is full due to recent heavy rains in the state. Currently, there is 15.03 tmcft of water stored at the level of 14.045 feet in the project. The excess water is being released into the Manjeera River through floodgates. With the water in the project, around 1.50 lakh acres in Ayakattu can be supplied with water even in the next season.
The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, had promised to provide an additional 5 TMC of water through Konda Pochamma Sagar if there is no rain and water supply is low. However, due to abundant rainfall, there is plenty of water in the project. Since KCR became the CM, Telangana has been receiving good rainfall every year, leading to filled ponds and projects and increased crop yield. Currently, the area under cultivation in the state has increased to 1.50 crore acres and the yield has reached 3 crore tonnes. If the remaining irrigation projects are completed, grain production will increase even further.
During his visit, the Speaker also interacted with the farmers and assured them that the government will take necessary steps to ensure they have sufficient water for their crops. He emphasized the importance of using available water resources efficiently.
