Telangana PG Dental Students Pay More Fees Than Other States
Postgraduate dental students in Telangana are paying higher fees compared to students from other states. This is due to government orders (GOs) 107, 131, and 20, which allowed private colleges to increase their fees in 2023.
In Telangana, students are paying between ₹5.75 lakh and ₹7.75 lakh for Category A seats. Meanwhile, students in Andhra Pradesh pay only between ₹3.41 lakh and ₹4.96 lakh for the same seats. The Telangana government asked PG dental students to pay the increased fees following the issuance of these GOs. First-year students must pay the full amount, while second-year students are required to pay 40% of the increased fee. The High Court refused to intervene in the matter.
Dr. Manzoor, President of the All India Dental and Surgeons Association, said the fee hike has put a financial burden on students. He requested the Health Minister to cancel the GOs or issue a new order to align Telangana’s fees with those of neighboring states. This, he said, would ensure fairness and reduce financial stress on students.
Dr. Manzoor also suggested that if repealing GO 107 is not possible, the government should ask the Advocate General to represent students’ concerns in court. He emphasized that government support would show a commitment to affordable education. Additionally, he urged the government to provide stipends for postgraduate students in private dental and medical colleges. He believes this would help ease their financial burden and allow them to focus on their studies.
