An under-construction bridge in Peddapalli district collapsed without causing any casualties. The incident happened in Odedu village of Mutharam mandal when two girders fell due to strong winds. Fortunately, the collapse occurred late at night when no one was around.
Villagers reported the incident to the police the following day. The bridge, which was meant to connect Odedu to Garmillapalli village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, has been under construction since 2016. Delays in the project were caused by changing contractors, lack of funds, and other issues.
The foundation stone for the bridge was laid in 2016 with an estimated cost of Rs 47.40 crore. It was supposed to be completed within a year. A temporary road beneath the bridge was being used by locals for commuting.
Once completed, the bridge was expected to shorten the distance between Manthani and Parakal, as well as Bhupalpally and Jammikunta towns by approximately 50 kilometres.
