    Elderly Parents Deserve Respect and Support, Says Judge

    Wanaparthy: Elderly parents should be treated like gods and taken care of in their old age, said V. Rajani, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority and Senior Judge.

    On Thursday, a legal awareness seminar was organized for senior citizens by the District Legal Services Authority at the Senior Citizen Forum in Wanaparthy. Speaking as the chief guest, Rajani explained that if children fail to meet the basic needs of their elderly parents, the parents can file a maintenance complaint under the Senior Citizen Act of 2007. This complaint can be submitted to the Rural Development Officer, allowing parents to receive a monthly maintenance amount from their children. The maximum amount that can be sought is ₹10,000.

    She also mentioned that maintenance can be requested not only from biological children but also from adopted children. If anyone forces their parents out of their home, the affected parents can call the toll-free number 14567 to report the issue.

    Additionally, Rajani spoke about the role of the District Legal Services Authority, which conducts awareness programs for the public and students about legal rights. She informed attendees that the toll-free number 15100 is available for legal advice.

    The event was attended by Legal Aid Assistant Council member M. Raghu, District Senior Citizen Forum President Srinivas, Mandal Senior Citizen Forum President Nagendram Goud, and other dignitaries.
