Ahead of the reopening of junior colleges on June 1, students and parents are concerned about pending affiliations. Some colleges have not yet received affiliation from the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) but are still admitting students without disclosing their status.
Out of the nearly 3,000 junior colleges in the state, about 50% are private while the rest are government or managed by other organizations. Only 60% of the private junior colleges have been inspected and granted affiliations. Approximately 800 junior colleges are still awaiting inspections and affiliations, causing uncertainty for students and parents.
TSBIE grants affiliation based on inspections of facilities like classrooms, laboratories, and basic amenities. They also check the qualifications of the teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as records related to salary payments. Affiliation ensures that a junior college is recognized and provides confidence to students and parents.
Despite concerns, TSBIE Secretary Shruti Ojha reassured parents and students that 2,500 junior colleges have already been granted affiliation. The process is ongoing as institutions submit necessary documents, and some delays may occur due to address changes or other issues. Ojha promised that the affiliation process will be completed soon to address these concerns.
