Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the MA&UD and IT Minister, announced on Monday the unveiling of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy lift scheme in Telangana. This scheme will bring water to the soil and is being hailed as another Kaleswaram in the state’s irrigation sector. Despite facing obstacles and conspiracies, the KCR government has worked diligently to make this project a reality.
The Palamuru – Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme aims to provide irrigation to upland areas in Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, and Nalgonda districts. It will cover an area of 4,04,858 hectares and provide drinking water to villages along the way. Additionally, it will supply water for industrial use in these districts and Hyderabad city. The scheme involves lifting 90 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of floodwater in 60 days during the flood season from the foreshore of Srisailam reservoir to KP Laxmidevipally. The water will then be utilized by gravity.
The project consists of five stages, starting from the foreshore of Srisailam Reservoir and ending at KP Laxmidevipally Reservoir. Each stage involves pumping water from one reservoir to another. The first lift starts at the foreshore of Srisailam Project and fills the proposed Anjanagiri reservoir at Narlapur village. The second lift continues from Anjanagiri reservoir and fills the Sri Veera Anjaneya Reservoir at Yedula. The third lift connects to Sri Veera Anjaneya Reservoir and fills the Venkatadri Reservoir at Vattem village and Kurumarthyraya Reservoir at Karvena village. The fourth lift starts at Kurumarthyraya Reservoir and fills the proposed Udandapur Reservoir. Lastly, the fifth lift begins at Udandapur Reservoir and fills the KP Laxmidevipally reservoir.
The Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme is a significant development in Telangana’s irrigation sector. It demonstrates the dedication of the KCR government to fulfill the water needs of farmers and communities in the region.
