The state government of Telangana has successfully procured 50-lakh metric tonnes of paddy, which includes damaged crops from unseasonal rains. This is 12-lakh metric tonnes more than last season. The farmers who faced damage from untimely rains were promised compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre, which has been paid out by the government. Officials have stated that Rs 10,200-crore worth of paddy has been procured so far and will soon be deposited into the bank accounts of 8 lakh farmers. The government had established 7,000 paddy purchase centres across the state to procure the grains. Strict action will be taken against rice millers who reject paddy for custom milling based on below-normal quality.
With just two days left for the launch of the 21-day decennial Telangana Formation Day celebrations from June 2, officials are working on a fast track to complete paddy procurement before the celebrations begin. All officials including Collectors and district authorities will be involved in organising and conducting the celebrations successfully.
