    Telangana police have seized a significant amount of cash, precious metals, liquor, and other illegal items since the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force for the November 30 Assembly elections. In just eight days, they seized Rs 55.99 crore in cash, precious metals worth Rs 38.45 crore, liquor worth Rs 2.60 crore, and other contrabands totaling Rs 101 crore.

    The police have been committed to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections, and have intensified their efforts to crack down on illicit money, drugs, liquor, and other inducements. They confiscated Rs 55.99 crore in cash, Rs 2.60 crore worth of liquor, and precious metals including 72.06 kgs of gold, 429.1 kgs of silver, and 42.25 carats of diamonds worth Rs 38.45 crore. They also seized 1234 kg of ganja and other contraband worth Rs 3.42 crore, as well as freebies worth Rs 70.04 lakh.

    To enforce the MCC guidelines set by the Election Commission of India, the police have formed 373 Flying Squads (FS), 374 Static Surveillance Teams (SST), and 95 State internal border check posts. They have also deployed mobile parties of local police to prevent illegal transportation of cash, precious metals, liquor, and freebies.

    During the 2018 Assembly elections, approximately Rs 103 crore was seized throughout the MCC period. This year, within a short period of time, the police have already recovered Rs 101 crore in cash, precious metals, and liquor. It is important for all political party members to abide by the MCC guidelines to ensure smooth elections.
