Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police Cracks Down on Drunken Driving
Cyberabad traffic police have intensified their efforts to stop drunken driving. Over the festival weekend, they conducted a large-scale drive to catch drivers under the influence of alcohol. The drive took place across various areas in the Cyberabad Commissionerate, especially focusing on the IT corridor.
During the drive, which lasted from November 1 to 6 am on November 3, traffic police caught a total of 513 offenders for driving while drunk. This effort was made to reduce the increasing number of alcohol-related accidents in the area.
Out of the 513 offenders, 425 were two-wheeler drivers, 24 were three-wheeler drivers, 60 were four-wheeler drivers, and four were driving heavy vehicles. Police reported that 64 of these offenders had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml, which is far above the legal limit. All of them will be presented in court.
The police also found that some of the drivers were underage and had been drinking. While these individuals were charged for drunk driving, the law and order police will investigate where they obtained the alcohol.
Cyberabad police have issued a warning to the public. They stated that anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol and causing accidents that result in deaths will face serious charges. They will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which could lead to up to ten years in jail and a hefty fine.
