A plan has been put in place to distribute deworming tablets to 3,11,317 children aged 1 to 19 years across the district. This includes 74,641 children from 1,840 Anganwadi centres and 2,36,676 students from 1,618 government, private schools, and junior colleges.

Dr. Sreeja highlighted the dangers of pinworm infections, such as anemia, and emphasized the importance of preventive measures to protect children’s health. Officials assured that enough albendazole tablets are available to meet the needs of the campaign. The initiative will involve 1,339 ASHA workers, 1,739 Anganwadi teachers, and 1,260 medical staff.

For children who miss the initial distribution on February 10, a follow-up round is scheduled for February 17. Schools and colleges will receive prior notifications, and the programme will be closely monitored by local leaders, Panchayat secretaries, and the District Education Officer.

In addition to the deworming campaign, efforts to raise awareness about leprosy will take place on January 30. Village councils will organize information sessions, and special officers will educate communities about identifying early symptoms, such as skin spots, and the importance of consulting doctors. Even though leprosy cases are declining, officials stress the need for vigilance and early detection.

These combined efforts aim to improve public health and ensure the well-being of children and communities in Khammam.
