Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) conducted a drone survey of the metro rail alignment, affected properties, and other sensitive structures in the Old city. The survey was ordered by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to speed up preparatory works for the metro rail project in Old city, Hyderabad. The survey will help measure the affected properties needed for road widening and plan the metro alignment and pillars. Protecting religious and sensitive structures is a challenge for the construction of the metro on this stretch.

The drone surveys will help find engineering solutions to protect these structures. The surveys provide real-time data, high-resolution imagery, 3D modeling, and integration of GIS data and CAD software for analysis and visualization. Tenders are also being finalized for soil investigation, which will start from the Falaknuma end where the Falaknuma metro station will be located. The Old City metro stretch will have five stations, including Salarjung Museum, Charminar (about 500 meters away from these two monuments), Shalibanda, and Falaknuma.
