MLA Pushes for Strengthening Water Tanks Before Next Monsoon
MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has instructed the irrigation department to strengthen all the tanks in his constituency before the next monsoon season. He emphasized the need for detailed and effective planning to achieve this.
On Saturday, the MLA held a review meeting with irrigation officials at his Hyderabad residence. The meeting focused on the availability and usage of small water resources across all mandals in his constituency.
During the discussions, officials provided updates on existing tanks, ponds, and canals. They also explored the construction of additional check dams to boost groundwater levels, rehabilitating feeder channels, and identifying resources to fill interconnected tanks and other water bodies.
The MLA highlighted that the constituency is severely affected by fluoride contamination, making rainwater conservation a top priority. He stated that every drop of rainwater should be diverted into tanks to improve agriculture and benefit the people. He also urged officials to strengthen feeder channels supplying water to the area’s 669 tanks.
Reddy instructed officials to remove silt from tanks, ponds, and canals and to reinforce the bunds of the tanks. He set a deadline for completing site surveys by December, ensuring that selected tanks are fully fortified before the next monsoon.
To oversee the progress, the MLA announced the formation of special committees at the mandal level. These committees will coordinate with officials to ensure the tasks are completed within the stipulated timeline.
Stressing the importance of rainwater conservation, Reddy reiterated that the effective management of water resources is essential for the development of villages and the welfare of the residents. He urged officials to act promptly and without negligence to meet the constituency’s water needs.
