Telangana Congress Chief Criticizes Union Budget for Ignoring State
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud has expressed strong criticism of the Union Budget 2025-26, presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He accused her of neglecting Telangana and allocating no funds to the state, despite her connection as a “Telugu bahu” (daughter-in-law of Telugu origin).
Goud alleged that the BJP-led central government designed the budget with the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in mind. He pointed out that Bihar received special allocations, while Telangana was left out entirely, calling it a clear case of political discrimination.
Expressing outrage, Goud highlighted that out of the massive Rs 50 lakh crore Union Budget, not even a single rupee was allocated to Telangana. He further noted that the Centre collected Rs 40,000 crore from Telangana as GST but failed to return any meaningful share to the state.
He also criticized the Centre for not granting national project status to the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Additionally, he accused the government of failing to fulfil promises made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, which was meant to address the needs of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh after the states were divided.
Goud reminded the public that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders had made several commitments to Telangana during election campaigns. However, he claimed these promises have been forgotten, leaving the state without the necessary support for its development.
In his concluding remarks, Goud urged the central government to ensure justice for Telangana by releasing the required funds and fulfilling its commitments to the state.
