    The Union government has announced that NIT Warangal and Surathkal will prepare a Krishna River Basin Management Plan amid the rivalry between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The plan is part of a larger initiative involving 12 technical institutions to create management plans for six main rivers in the country.

    The Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies, led by IIT Kanpur, will provide scientific and technical support for the implementation of the plan. The NIT institutions will focus on studying and recommending strategies for managing the Krishna River, with Ganga taking on leadership and coordination roles.

    A consortium of 7 IITs, led by IIT Kanpur, successfully completed the outline of the basin management plan for Ganga. The signing ceremony of an agreement between the institutions and the National River Conservation Directorate marked the beginning of this important project.
