The Hyderabad Police have arrested a Nigerian man for possessing seven grams of cocaine. The arrest was made by the Commissioner’s Task Force Central Zone Team, along with the Kacheguda police. The accused, Ngwuchukwu Godwin Ifeanyi, also known as Godwin, is from Enugu State, Nigeria.
Godwin came to India in 2015 on a student visa and joined a pharmacy college in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. Over time, he became involved in drug trafficking after being influenced by his Nigerian friends. He started procuring and selling cocaine to users. His student visa expired in 2016, but he remained in India illegally. He used his contacts with other Nigerians to obtain drugs and sell them in Hyderabad.
According to YVS Sudheendra, DCP Task Force, Godwin sourced drugs from Mumbai or Bangalore through a peddler. He operated from Kharghar, Mumbai, and managed the drug supply to Hyderabad. The drugs reached Mumbai through various routes before being collected by him. All financial transactions were done online, and the drugs were delivered using online delivery services. The delivery method used was the “Dead Drop” technique, where there was no direct contact between the peddler and the buyer.
In May 2022, he was arrested by the Prohibition & Excise Station, Dhoolpet, in a cocaine case and was sent to judicial custody. He was later released on surety bail. In January 2023, he was again arrested by the Prohibition & Excise Station, Hayathnagar, for another drug case and was remanded to judicial custody. Due to police surveillance in Hyderabad, he moved to Mumbai and continued his drug business from Kharghar.
On March 23, Godwin came to Hyderabad with cocaine and waited to deliver it to a customer. Based on a tip-off, the Task Force team apprehended him near D-Mart Road in Kacheguda. The police seized the drugs and two mobile phones from him. He was handed over to the authorities for further legal action.
