The Centre is dedicated to improving literacy rates and providing educational opportunities for tribal communities, said Union Tourism and Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy. He inaugurated the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University (SSCTU) campus in Jakaram village near Mulugu district headquarters, with an allocated budget of Rs 889 crore.
For the upcoming academic year 2024-25, the university will offer two four-year programs – BA English (Honours) and BA Social Sciences (Honours) with 25 seats each. Additionally, there will be eight seats in each course reserved for tribal youth from Telangana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy are expected to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka believes the tribal university will contribute to the development of Mulugu district, especially considering its growth as a tourism destination. The event was attended by Mahabubabad MP Maloth Kavitha, Tribal Welfare Department Principal Secretary A Sharath, Mulugu district collector Ila Tripathi, controller of examinations Porika Thukaram, and superintendent of police Sabarish.
Afterward, Kishan Reddy visited the Ramappa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Palampet village, to assess the progress of development projects in the area.
