Empowering Rural Women Through Solar Energy in Nalgonda
In a significant step to improve rural lives, the Pratheek Foundation, led by Telangana’s Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, has introduced a unique initiative to support women using solar battery technology. This first-of-its-kind project in the state focuses on providing financial stability for rural women while promoting the use of renewable energy in Nalgonda district.
On Friday, the initiative was officially launched at Udayaditya Bhavan in the Nalgonda District Collectorate. During the event, Minister Komatireddy distributed checks worth ₹50 lakh to 50 women from self-help groups in Atiamul village of Kattangur Mandal. Each woman received ₹1 lakh under the Indira Mahila Swayam Shakti programme, supported by the Pratheek Foundation, to establish solar battery energy units.
Minister Komatireddy emphasized how the project could transform lives. He explained that the initiative aims to help rural women earn an additional ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 per month without adding to their workload. “This programme showcases Pratheek Foundation’s dedication to empowering rural women and supporting self-reliant families, contributing to a stronger Telangana,” he said.
To ensure the project’s success, Pratheek Foundation has partnered with Swabhags Lab Pvt. Ltd. The company will collect discharged batteries from the women’s homes, replace them with charged ones, and purchase the power generated at ₹16 per unit. This guarantees a steady income for the beneficiaries. Swabhags Lab Pvt. Ltd. CEO Sudhakar expressed pride in collaborating on this initiative, highlighting its positive impact on both the environment and society.
Jakkula Satyanarayana, Managing Director of Sathya Solar Energy Pvt. Ltd., also praised the efforts to increase the use of solar energy. He noted the progress made since 2016 when solar energy awareness was minimal. “Today, initiatives like this are transforming lives across districts,” he remarked, celebrating the growing focus on renewable energy.
This innovative programme not only supports women’s financial independence but also promotes a cleaner and greener future for rural communities in Telangana.
