Hours after the suspension of Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar, the Telangana State government has appointed Ravi Gupta as the new DGP. Gupta, an IPS officer from the 1990 batch, was previously serving as the Director-General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and also held the additional charge of Director General (Vigilance and Enforcement).
The decision to appoint Ravi Gupta as the new DGP came after the Election Commission of India (ECI) instructed the Chief Secretary of Telangana to take disciplinary action against Anjani Kumar. Anjani Kumar was suspended for meeting with the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president, A Revanth Reddy, at his residence during the vote counting process.
This appointment brings a change in leadership within the Telangana State police force, as Ravi Gupta takes over the responsibilities of the DGP.
