AIMIM MLAs claim that they are always with the people and their work begins after the election results are announced, so they do not need a manifesto. However, there is a lack of development in the constituencies represented by the party MLAs.
In Yakutpura constituency, which has the largest Muslim majority slums in the city, AIMIM considers Talab Katta as the pride of the party. However, this area is far from being developed. There are no infrastructure projects or road widenings, and this negligence is the result of both representatives and administrators ignoring the issue.
The most affected areas are Talab Katta, Aman Nagar A, and Aman Nagar B, which are flooded during monsoons. The residents of Rein Bazar, Talab Katta, Bhavani Nagar, Edi Bazar, Kurmaguda, Bagh-e-Jahara, and other localities under Yakutpura constituency face problems like bad and uneven roads. The nala (drainage channel) from Maula ka Chilla to Imlibun overflows during rain, causing nightmares for residents. Only the Santosh Nagar division of the constituency has witnessed infrastructural development.
The major issue faced by residents is the old drainage system and the overflowing nala. The lack of development in localities shows that there has been no progress for the past 25 years.
Due to the absence of modernization and government apathy towards the development of Yakutpura constituency, residents have to live with poor civic amenities, including a lack of basic infrastructure in education and healthcare sectors.
Residents have been suffering from long-lasting civic problems with no solution in sight. Yakutpura is still considered one of the most backward areas in the Old City, lacking educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and basic civic amenities.
The main problems faced by residents include blocked drains leading to sewage overflow on the roads, bad and uneven roads, irregular drinking water supply, and poor sanitation. The sewers and drinking water pipes were laid decades ago and have never been replaced, causing increased load on the sewer due to population growth.
Residents express their disappointment with the ruling party AIMIM, stating that there has been no progress in the past two decades, including the lack of adequate drinking water supply. Mohammed Ahmed, a resident of Yakutpura, describes it as unfortunate but the reality.
Abdul Rahman, a social activist, highlights the major issue of contaminated water supply from taps and the officials’ lack of response to complaints from residents.
