With less than a month until the holy month of Ramzan, Muslim leaders are urging the government to make arrangements for a smooth conduct of the 30-day holy month. They are specifically requesting the release of the minorities grant aid funds of Rs 105 crore, which were sanctioned in 2021 but have not been released yet.
In recent years, there have been no proper arrangements by the government for Muslims during Ramzan. Many mosques, including Mecca Masjid and Shahi Masjid, lack basic facilities and repair works due to a lack of budget.
Previously, the government used to sanction a grant in aid for the holy month, and the Telangana Wakf Board used to take up work in over 1,000 Wakf institutions. However, for the past few years, no funds have been released and no repair works have been undertaken in these institutions.
Muslims have been facing difficulties in mosques during Ramzan, including a lack of drinking water and cooling facilities. Despite raising the issue with the government, basic facilities have not been provided.
The arrangement of iftar, the meal to break the fast, has also been neglected in Mecca Masjid and Shahi Masjid due to a lack of funds. Muslims have had to bring their own food. The government has failed to provide necessary support during the holy month.
MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has raised the issue in the Assembly budget session and urged the government to release the grant in aid that was sanctioned. He emphasized that the funds should be used to renovate and repair Wakf institutions before Ramzan begins.
Akbaruddin Owaisi also highlighted the delay in preparatory meetings and work undertaken by the government. He requested an early meeting before the Parliamentary election code is implemented, as no funds would be released or work carried out during that time.
In conclusion, Muslim leaders are urging the government to make arrangements and release the necessary funds for a smooth conduct of Ramzan. They emphasize the need for basic facilities and repair works in Wakf institutions before the holy month begins.
