Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has decided to begin a padayatra (foot march) along the Musi River in response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Musi rejuvenation project. This move comes amidst strong opposition from the BRS and BJP, and conditional support from AIMIM. The CM’s padayatra will start on Saturday, which also happens to be his birthday.
The campaign, called the ‘Musi Rejuvenation Praja Chaitanya Padayatra,’ will begin at Valigonda mandal in Bhongir district. During this walk, Revanth Reddy plans to meet with local residents to discuss the increasing pollution of water and air around the Musi River and the harmful effects it has on their health.
The Chief Minister will encourage people to think about the future and support the effort to clean and revive the river. He will argue that the opposition’s focus is on political survival, not the well-being of the people, and that rejuvenating the Musi is crucial for the next generation. Before the padayatra, Revanth Reddy, along with his family, will visit the Yadagirigutta Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple to perform puja (prayer). He will also review the temple’s development with the Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority (YTDA).
Afterward, the CM will visit villages like Bollepalli, Sangem, and Bhimalingam along the Musi River. With the help of officials, he will talk to residents about their living conditions and the problems they face due to pollution. Revanth Reddy will explain how cleaning the river will provide safe drinking water and benefit agriculture. He will also emphasize the importance of eliminating fluoride contamination, which has been harming people’s health and shortening their life expectancy.
In the second phase of his padayatra, Revanth Reddy will visit homes in the old Nalgonda district. As part of the project, the Municipal Administration, Urban Development, Irrigation, and Rural Development departments have been asked to submit a report on the effects of Musi River pollution in this region.
