District Collector Muzammil Khan has directed officials to speed up the construction of the retaining wall on the eastern side of the Munneru River. He emphasized the need for land acquisition to proceed quickly to ensure timely completion of the project.
On Wednesday, the District Collector, along with Additional Collector P Srinivas Reddy and officials from the revenue and irrigation departments, inspected the ongoing construction work at Munneru in Polepalli. They also reviewed the progress of land acquisition, the land allotted to displaced persons, and the Munneru aqueduct.
The Collector instructed officials to plan and implement daily work efficiently. He suggested forming additional teams if necessary to complete the project before the monsoon season begins.
Officials and contractors explained the construction details to the Collector, including the extent of floodwater reach, the strength of the retaining wall, the materials used, and the precautions needed for curing the wall.
Muzammil Khan also mentioned that a drainage canal was being built next to the Munneru wall and the adjacent road. He stated that the government is negotiating with farmers to provide alternative land to those affected by the project. He directed officials to convince farmers of the benefits of the retaining wall so they willingly offer their lands for the construction.
Several officials, including Irrigation SE M. Venkateswarlu, DE Ramesh, Khammam Rural Tahsildar Ramprasad, and RI Kranthi, were present during the inspection.
