The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recently announced an increase in toll fees for motorists travelling through National Highways and Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hyderabad. This decision has caused frustration among residents of the area who claim they are being forced to pay around Rs 160 just for entering and exiting their homes. Residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) have also taken to social media to voice their concerns and accuse the government of a lack of concern towards the common man.

Furthermore, cab drivers have expressed disappointment that promised amenities have not been implemented in all the stretches maintained by NHAI. Shaik Salauddin, a Taxi drivers’ union leader, stated that the increased toll fees are unjustified considering the lack of amenities provided.

The NHAI has increased charges at all 29 toll plazas across the state as per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. These rules state that fee rates are to be revised annually from 1st April.

Overall, the recent increase in toll fees has caused dissatisfaction among motorists and residents of Hyderabad. The lack of promised amenities and perceived lack of concern from the government has led to frustration and calls for action.
