Hyderabad: Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for seeking power, comparing him to his grandmother, late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He mentioned how Indira Gandhi imposed an Emergency in the past to retain power by claiming foreign powers were trying to destabilize India.
Sanjay Kumar accused Rahul Gandhi of traveling to different countries to seek power and damaging the country’s image by seeking intervention from Western countries under the pretext of ‘Democracy is in danger.’ He urged Congress to move away from dirty politics and stand with the people as the opposition, suggesting they engage in meaningful discussions and offer constructive solutions in Parliament.
Reflecting on the 21-month Emergency period from June 25, 1975, Sanjay Kumar condemned the Congress party for suppressing democracy and silencing the voice of the people. He highlighted how opposition leaders and activists were jailed during the Emergency, with newspapers being censored and basic rights taken away.
Sanjay Kumar criticized Congress for its history of arresting Sangh Parivar workers and mentioned the atrocities committed by Sanjay Gandhi’s group during the Emergency. He noted that despite public backlash against the Emergency, Congress continued its power-hungry tactics, misusing Article 356 multiple times to overthrow opposition-led state governments.
In recent elections, Sanjay Kumar stated that Congress spread false allegations against the BJP, but the people did not fall for it. He emphasized that Congress and its leaders need to change their approach to gain voter support.
