The central government is working on a plan to keep journalists safe, according to Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai. He said that the government values the safety of all residents, including journalists, and is finalizing a standard operating procedure in consultation with various agencies. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already issued advisories to states and Union Territories to maintain law and order and punish those who take the law into their own hands. In 2017, an advisory specifically on the safety of journalists was issued, urging states and Union Territories to enforce the law to ensure their security.
