Morning walkers in Hyderabad upset by illegal parking at Public Garden

Once again, the Public Garden in Hyderabad is causing trouble for morning walkers. Commercial vehicles have taken over a part of the garden premises, making it difficult for people to walk around. On top of that, there is garbage dumped in the surrounding areas.

The garden is supposed to be maintained by three different departments. The Horticulture Department takes care of the garden maintenance, the Manmade Pond is under HMDA’s responsibility, and the kids’ play zone and gym facilities are managed by GHMC. However, these departments have been negligent, causing inconvenience for the three thousand walkers who visit the garden every day.

Illegal parking of commercial and tourist buses has also damaged the garden’s vegetation and 150-year-old trees. This is not only harmful to the environment but also affects the Telangana State Archaeology Museum and Lalitha Kala Toranam.

Mohammed Abid Ali, a social activist, expressed his concerns about the deteriorating condition of the garden. He mentioned that there have been difficulties due to illegal parking, rusted buses, and garbage scattered all over the park. Despite raising the issue with the concerned department, no action has been taken by the State government.

Sarwar Pasha, a regular walker at the public garden, shared his frustration about the haphazard parking inside the park. This makes it impossible for walkers to move freely. They have repeatedly complained to the government but have seen no improvements.

Another morning walker pointed out that the neglect of the garden is a result of confusion between departments. When they complain to GHMC, they are told that it’s HMDA’s responsibility and vice versa.
