Hyderabad: The Municipal Corporation is still working on monsoon action plan projects in Tolichowki despite the arrival of the monsoon and ongoing rains. Residents and activists are concerned about the delay in these projects, especially in areas that are frequently affected by heavy rainfall.
The recent heavy downpour in Golconda and Tolichowki areas has caused flooding and raised fears among residents. Videos of water flowing at high speeds and bikes being swept away in Hakeempet Kunta have gone viral on social media.
Despite efforts like upgrading pipelines, diverting lakes, extending nalas, and working on SW drains, areas like Nizam colony, Salar Jung Colony, Hakeempet Kunta, Nanal Nagar, and others in Tolichowki continue to face flooding during the monsoon season.
Major projects like laying a 27-km Trunk lane under the Strategic Nala Development Programme are still ongoing in Tolichowki. The delay in these projects has led to worsening road conditions and increased risk of flooding during heavy rains.
The GHMC has completed some works in certain areas, but many projects are still pending. The corporation is facing criticism for incomplete monsoon action works, particularly in the southern part of the city. Projects like laying SW drain pipelines, 900 mm pipelines, box-type drains, and desilting manholes are yet to be completed.
