Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to honor the 65th anniversary of the Indian Constitution with grand celebrations during his third term. He spoke at a public gathering in Zaheerabad, emphasizing the importance of the Constitution to him and his government. Modi recalled how he had respected the Constitution even before becoming Prime Minister. He accused the Congress party of disrespecting the Constitution from the beginning, claiming that the original document was hidden away by Jawaharlal Nehru.
According to Modi, Nehru locked up the original Constitution, which contained references to Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, in a cupboard. Instead, a censored version was shared with the public to disconnect it from the country’s culture. Modi criticized Indira Gandhi for imposing Emergency and restricting democracy during her tenure. He accused the Congress of trying to implement religion-based reservations against the principles of Dr. BR Ambedkar and the Constitution’s founders.
The Prime Minister alleged that the Congress party disregarded its own constitution and sidelined leaders like Sitaram Kesri to promote dynastic politics. Modi criticized Nehru for amending the Constitution’s First Amendment to stifle freedom of expression. He questioned Congress’s commitment to democracy by pointing out their obstruction of Parliament and skepticism towards institutions like the Election Commission and EVMs.
Modi highlighted the negative aspects of the Congress party symbol, claiming it represents false slogans, promises, vote bank politics, criminal influence, and corruption. He warned voters about the party’s proposed inheritance tax, suggesting it would benefit their supporters rather than citizens’ children. Modi urged the public to be wary of Congress’s intentions and actions.
