Mahabubnagar: Khalid Naveed, a social activist from the Youth Welfare Mahabubnagar organization, has called for urgent reforms in madrasa education. He emphasized the need to modernize their curriculum by integrating modern subjects like science, mathematics, technology, and social sciences alongside religious teachings. This, he believes, will equip Muslim children with contemporary skills and open up better opportunities in higher education and professional careers.

Speaking to the media, Khalid expressed concern about the outdated education system in many madrasas. He pointed out that the current curriculum limits career options for students and leaves them vulnerable to misinformation and radical ideologies. “Religious education is important for understanding faith and history, but our children also need modern education to compete in today’s world. Without it, they are at risk of falling behind or being misled by harmful influences,” he said.

Khalid highlighted that Islam encourages the pursuit of knowledge across all fields. He urged madrasas to prepare students for diverse roles beyond traditional religious vocations. “If we want our children to become doctors, engineers, scientists, or entrepreneurs, we must provide them with the right tools and education,” he added.

Modernizing madrasas, according to Khalid, could also play a key role in countering radicalization. He argued that by fostering critical thinking and exposing students to a broader worldview, madrasas can help create a more balanced and informed society. He encouraged madrasa administrations to collaborate with governments and private organizations to secure funding and improve teacher training programs.

With increasing concerns about youth unemployment and radicalization, activists like Khalid Naveed are calling for immediate reforms. They aim to ensure that madrasas contribute positively to building a progressive and enlightened society.
