Ahead of Ramzan in Hyderabad, no arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the 30-day holy month. Public representatives have raised concerns with the Telangana State Minorities Welfare Department regarding tasks like mosque renovation, repairs, and iftar arrangements.
A meeting was held last week by Minister BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, with government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir, AIMIM MLAs, and others in attendance. The Minister requested adequate arrangements for the holy month, but the government and minority welfare department had not yet started the necessary work.
AIMIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin met with Omer Jaleel, Commissioner of the TS Minorities Welfare Department, to push for urgent action for the upcoming Ramzan. Mohiuddin highlighted the slow progress on the renovation of Qutab Shahi Masjid in Langar Houz, which had a budget of Rs 1.25 crore allocated.
The MLA also discussed the allocation of funds for other mosque and dargah renovations, including Dargah Hakeem Shah Baba and Miya Mishk in Puranapul. The Commissioner assured that the work would be completed on time.
In recent years, there have been insufficient government arrangements for Muslims during Ramzan in Hyderabad. Many mosques, including Mecca Masjid and Shahi Masjid, lacked proper facilities and repairs due to budget constraints. Activist Asif Hussain Sohail noted that previously, a grant was sanctioned for over 1,000 Wakf institutions by the Telangana Wakf Board.
During the recent Assembly budget session, MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi urged the government to release the Rs 105 crore grant for the renovation of Wakf institutions. He emphasized the importance of completing the work before Ramzan begins.
