AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi questioned the State government about the progress of the CID investigation into Wakf properties. He raised this issue while speaking in the Assembly during a discussion on the demand for grants.
He also urged the government to implement a Minorities sub-plan and a BC sub-plan. Owaisi reminded the Congress government that these were promises made in its election manifesto. Referring to the budgets of the past two financial years, he pointed out that funds allocated for disadvantaged sections were either not being released or not being properly utilized.
The Chandrayangutta MLA called for an increase in the number of employees in the Minorities Welfare Department to ensure the proper implementation of welfare schemes.
Speaking on the issue of overseas scholarships, Owaisi claimed that wealthy individuals, including those living in large houses and owning multiple vehicles, were benefiting from these schemes. He suggested that scholarships worth ₹20 lakh should be granted only to students who commit to returning to India after completing their education. He also proposed setting up a system where beneficiaries could repay the amount after a certain period.
Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu appreciated Owaisi’s suggestion and acknowledged that well-off individuals taking advantage of these schemes was a serious concern. He urged all political parties to work together to ensure that welfare benefits reached the poorest and most deserving individuals.
Additionally, Owaisi raised concerns about minors aged between 12 to 14 years riding bikes in the city. He criticized the police for not taking action against them and urged authorities to take strict measures. He also suggested that parents allowing their children to ride bikes should be held accountable.
