The AIMIM party in Telangana was not affected by the Congress wave and was able to win its constituencies in Old Hyderabad. Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s strategies worked well, especially his decision to replace three party stalwarts with three new faces. The winners, Mohammed Majid Hussain, Mir Zulfiqar Ali, and Mohd Mubeen, will enter the Legislative Assembly as MLAs for the first time.

In the recent Telangana Assembly polls, the AIMIM contested in nine assembly seats and won seven, maintaining their strongholds since 2009. Asad Owaisi conducted various campaigns, including traditional Paidal Daura, corner meetings, and grand public meetings in all contesting segments. Despite facing tough competition in two seats, the party held onto its bastions.

The decision to replace long-standing MLAs Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, and Mohammed Moazzam Khan with new faces had an impact on the party’s ability to retain their seats. Although the newly elected MLAs were former mayors and working corporators, this change influenced the party’s success.

Asad initiated a vigorous campaign in all constituencies, with a focus on Nampally. His efforts paid off as Mohammed Majid Hussain won the seat with a margin of 2,000 votes against his nearest rival from the Congress. In Yakutpura, which was a tough battle for the party’s stronghold, Jaffer Hussain Meraj emerged victorious. This segment had a low voter turnout of just 39.64%.

The party also saw two other new faces winning their seats. Mir Zulfiqar Ali became the first-time MLA from Charminar segment, while Mohammed Mubeen, a former corporator, won from Bahadurpura.

Political analysts suggest that the party should come up with new policies and improve their organizational system in the future. They believe that having a membership process and different wings within the party would encourage more people to join and strengthen the party. The analysts also emphasize the importance of identifying and grooming leaders within the party.
