AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi expressed shock at the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel just days before the announcement of the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Owaisi demanded that the government should disclose the reasons for Goel’s resignation.

Speaking to the media, the Hyderabad MP emphasized that since Goel did not provide reasons for his resignation, it is important for the Modi government to explain the circumstances surrounding his decision. The timing of Goel’s resignation, just before the announcement of the election schedule, was described by Owaisi as surprising and shocking.

Owaisi criticized the government for passing legislation in Parliament regarding the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and election commissioners. He opposed the Bill because it allowed a committee with a majority of members from the government to appoint CEC and ECs, leading to concerns about impartiality in the selection process.
