Hyderabad: The newly introduced paid parking at Nagole and Miyapur metro stations is causing difficulties for commuters due to the lack of basic facilities, like proper sheds. Daily passengers have asked metro authorities to improve the situation at the parking areas.

Currently, paid parking is available only at two metro stations – Nagole and Miyapur. However, many commuters are questioning its usefulness. At Nagole station alone, about 20,000 vehicles are parked daily, yet there is no shelter, leaving vehicles exposed for long hours. The same issue exists at Miyapur station.

Commuters have suggested that a security guard should be appointed and have expressed their frustration, especially during rainy weather. Without proper facilities, they face significant difficulties when leaving their vehicles at the stations.

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) has introduced parking fees at these stations, saying that it would lead to better-organized parking areas for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. They have also promised improvements like bio-toilets, 24/7 CCTV surveillance, security, and app-based payment options using QR codes.

However, regular metro users feel these promises are not being met. Srinivas, a daily commuter, said, “The metro parking areas are not maintained well. There is no proper shelter, and security is lacking. Even though the metro is a fast but somewhat costly mode of transport, I still prefer it for my daily commute from Miyapur to LB Nagar. But paying for parking seems unfair when there’s no security. My bike often has trouble starting due to the weather. A proper shed would make a big difference.”

Another commuter, Sai Teja, pointed out that the parking fees are higher than the metro fares. He said, “For two-wheelers, it costs Rs 10 for two hours and Rs 30 for four-wheelers. After that, it’s an extra Rs 5 for two-wheelers and Rs 15 for four-wheelers for each additional hour. Most metro users are employees, and while we understand fees are for maintenance, it doesn’t make sense to pay when there are no proper facilities.”
