Hyderabad Focuses on Improved Connectivity
Hyderabad, also known as the City of Pearls, is rapidly growing, especially in transportation and connectivity. The city is making significant progress in improving last-mile and first-mile connectivity to make travel easier for its residents.
This year, the Telangana government announced plans to improve access to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from all four corners of the city. As part of this effort, the Phase-II Metro Rail project will feature Hyderabad’s first double-decker flyover. This unique structure will include a 1.6-kilometer stretch combining a Metro viaduct and a flyover near Madinaguda.
Currently, three Metro corridors from Phase-I are already operational. The new Phase-II corridors will include routes such as Shamshabad to RGIA Airport, Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis, MGBS to Chandrayangutta (Old City), Miyapur to Patancheru, and LB Nagar. Additionally, Part B of the project will extend the Metro line from RGIA to the proposed Fourth City (Skills University), creating a sixth corridor.
The project is a collaboration between the Union and Telangana governments. The state government will cover 30% of the cost, while the Union government will contribute 18%. Another 48% of the funding will come from bank loans, and the remaining 4% will be managed through a public-private partnership. This joint effort aims to improve connectivity and support Hyderabad’s development as a modern and accessible city.
