Fewer Technical Faults in Electricity Meters This Year

The number of technical issues in electricity meters has seen a significant drop compared to last year in Hyderabad. According to Musharraf Faruqui, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TSSPDCL), this improvement is due to continuous monitoring, regular maintenance of power lines, and restoration efforts. Encouraging consumers to upgrade their internal wiring to match their power usage has also played a key role. The company provides services across 15 districts and has 93,46,952 billed connections.

In 2023, 2.04% of electricity meters were damaged, mostly due to loose connections, overloads, and earthing problems in homes and commercial buildings. To address this, the company implemented several measures in 2024, such as increasing the capacity of transformers, expanding power lines, and replacing damaged poles. These efforts have brought the percentage of damaged meters down to 1.21%, which is a 40.3% improvement compared to the previous year.

The CMD expressed confidence in further reducing these issues in the future. He assured that the company aims to completely eliminate such problems in the coming financial year while improving the overall power supply. Additionally, he advised consumers to take safety precautions. This includes ensuring proper internal wiring, installing joint-free wires, maintaining proper earthing, and using Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) based on their electricity load capacity.
