The Telangana Drugs Control Administration has caught a person who was using a dangerous chemical called ‘Picramic Acid’ to make Henna cones. The officers of the Drugs Control Administration raided a Henna manufacturing unit in Mehdipatnam and discovered that they were using the toxic chemical at an unlicensed place called ‘Shakil Industries’.

The Drugs Inspector, Hanamkonda J Kiran Kumar, received information about a fake cosmetic product called ‘Special Karachi Mehendi Cone’ being sold in the market. They identified that this product was being manufactured by Shakil Industries in Hyderabad. The cosmetic product was sent for testing at the Drugs Control Laboratory in Hyderabad, and the test report showed that it contained ‘Picramic Acid’, which is a synthetic dye that should not be used in Henna cones according to the standards set by ‘Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) IS 17318:2020’.

Kiran Kumar and his team conducted a raid on the manufacturing unit, which was operating without a cosmetic manufacturing license. They seized a large stock of Mehendi cones and arrested Mohammed Yousuf Ali, the owner of Shakil Industries in Mehdipatnam. The Drugs Control Administration officers also took samples for further analysis. The investigation will continue, and appropriate action will be taken against all the offenders according to the law.
