A Man Who Turned Grief into Compassion

Losing a loved one is one of the hardest experiences in life. Mohammed Asif Hussain Sohail knows this pain all too well. After the tragic loss of his three-year-old daughter, he decided to dedicate his life to helping others. His work has earned him the title of ‘Hyderabad’s Hunger Warrior.’

    A Father’s Unbreakable Promise

Asif Hussain had dreams of a political career, but everything changed when his daughter passed away. To honor her memory, he founded the Sakina Foundation, which helps feed the hungry, rescues women and children from human trafficking, and provides education and skill development. For 15 years, he has served free meals to over 1,000 people daily, feeding more than 38 lakh underprivileged individuals without accepting donations. He believes that serving others is his responsibility.

    A Life Devoted to Philanthropy

Asif Hussain has spent nearly 5,500 days helping those in need. With tears in his eyes, he says, “Though I lost a daughter, God blessed me with countless others. I will continue serving the needy for the rest of my life.” As an engineer by profession, he spends most of his earnings on philanthropy, believing that everything he has is a gift from God and must be used to help others.

    From Politics to Purpose

Before his daughter’s passing, Asif was an active political leader. He played a key role in strengthening the National Congress Party in 21 states. He started as a student activist at Osmania University, worked closely with Rahul Gandhi, and even represented India at the United Nations for eight years, advocating for human rights and youth empowerment.

    A Tragic Turning Point

While he was in the US for a UN event, his daughter, Sakina, was diagnosed with pneumonia and multiple organ failure. Despite efforts to save her, she did not survive. That moment changed everything for him. He gave up his political career and found a new purpose—to keep his daughter’s spirit alive through acts of kindness.

    Impact of the Sakina Foundation

Asif Hussain’s foundation does much more than provide food. It has:
    – Donated over 15,000 units of blood, saving countless lives.
    – Provided food, school fees, and medical care to thousands.
    – Established Oxford Skill and Learning Centres, helping underprivileged children and adults gain education and vocational training.
    – Organized over 100 medical and blood donation camps, benefiting thousands.

    Commitment Beyond Borders

Although his entire family are US citizens, Asif chose to stay in India to serve the underprivileged. He works daily with his family and volunteers to run the foundation. His dedication has earned him state, national, and international awards, along with the titles ‘Hyderabad’s Hunger Warrior’ and ‘The Messiah of the Poor.’

    A Mission Over Politics

Many of his friends have become MPs and MLAs, and political parties have offered him positions. However, Asif remains committed to his mission. “I choose to dedicate my life to serving the needy and underprivileged,” he says. His work continues to bring hope and relief to thousands, proving that even in grief, one can find a purpose that changes lives.
