The Telangana State Drugs Control Administration (DCA) found medicines in the market with misleading claims about treating heart diseases and menstrual disorders. During raids on Tuesday and Wednesday, officers seized two such medicines. The medicine ‘Cardinol Joshanda’ claimed to clear heart blockages, and drug inspectors seized stocks of it at a medical shop in Abids. Another medicine, Colinol-SPAS tablets, claimed to treat menstrual disorders, and stocks of it were seized at a medical shop in Madhuranagar.

Further investigation will be conducted, and action will be taken against all offenders according to the law. The DG of TSDCA mentioned that those who advertise drugs for specific diseases falsely may face imprisonment or fines under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

In a separate raid, officials seized drugs from a quack’s clinic in Yamanpalle village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. The practitioner, K Narender, was providing medical services without a proper license. The DCA officials found 29 varieties of medicines stocked at the clinic, including antibiotics and anti-ulcer drugs. Antibiotic injections were also found, raising concerns about the indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified individuals.

The sale of misleading medicines and antibiotics by unlicensed practitioners can have harmful consequences for public health, including the development of antimicrobial resistance.
