Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi of Hyderabad has instructed officials to address street issues within two days. She recently reviewed the street light maintenance with Commissioner Ronald Rose and electricity department officials at the GHMC headquarters. During the meeting, Vijayalakshmi acknowledged that complaints were not being resolved promptly due to a lack of buffer stock. This has led to numerous allegations and complaints from citizens and corporators.
The Mayor highlighted that although the GHMC pays monthly charges to the electric department, the necessary buffer stock for the city is not being prepared. This is because funds are being allocated to other municipalities in the State. As a result, complaints cannot be addressed immediately. She further noted that there were instances where street lights remained on during the day and off at night, which has prompted similar complaints from various areas across the city.
