A local court in Hyderabad sentenced a man to life imprisonment on Wednesday for a crime committed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The man, Boggula Sailu, was also fined Rs 5,000.
Sailu, who is 54 years old and a native of Nizamabad, was found guilty of raping a young girl in 2020. The crime led to the girl becoming four months pregnant. The court sentenced him to ‘rigorous imprisonment for life,’ which is a more severe form of punishment.
The case was initially registered at the Bowenpally police station. Sailu faced charges under sections 376(2) (3) (n) 506 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 5(l) R/W6 of the POCSO Act. The ruling was made by T Anitha, the XII additional metropolitan sessions judge, at the Nampally Sessions Court.
The police conducted an investigation, and the officer in charge, C Anjaiah, filed a charge sheet. After reviewing the evidence, the court decided to give Sailu a life sentence and imposed a fine.
