BJP Gears Up for Graduate Constituency Election in Telangana

With the BRS party opting out of the race, the Telangana BJP is preparing for a direct contest against Congress to win the Graduate Constituency election. This constituency includes four Lok Sabha segments where the BJP had previously secured victories. Senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister Bandi Sanjay and MPs D Arvind and G Nagesh, have taken this election as a crucial challenge.

The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates constituency election has gained importance since it covers areas represented by key BJP leaders. Along with two Teacher’s constituencies, this election has become a major political battle. The absence of BRS from the contest means it will be a head-to-head fight between BJP and Congress, similar to the recent Lok Sabha elections. In those elections, BJP made significant gains in northern Telangana, a region previously dominated by BRS. The BJP’s victory in this region is expected to boost its candidate, C Anji Reddy.

The BJP has nominated industrialist C Anji Reddy for this seat. He has been actively campaigning, meeting graduates, including advocates and other professionals. Anji Reddy had previously contested unsuccessfully from the Patancheru Assembly constituency in 2014, where he lost to Gudem Mahipal Reddy.

Party leaders believe their biggest challenge is to maintain the voter support they received in the Lok Sabha elections. A senior BJP leader stated that if they can secure the same votes, their victory is certain, which would help increase their presence in the Telangana Legislative Council.

In the past, BJP performed well in the 2019 elections but struggled to repeat the success in the subsequent Assembly elections. This time, the party has announced its candidates well in advance, even before other parties could finalize theirs.

MPs from the BJP are actively preparing for the campaign despite being occupied with Parliament sessions. They plan to tour villages during weekends to strengthen their support base.

The last date for filing nominations is February 10, and the election is scheduled to take place on February 27.
