Hyderabad: A significant reshuffle of IAS officers is expected to happen soon in Telangana. This comes after some officers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were sent back to their allotted cadres.

The officers from the Telangana cadre—SS Rawat, Ananta Ramu, Srijana Gummala, and Shivshankar—who had been working in Andhra Pradesh, have now returned and reported to the Chief Secretary in Telangana. The government is currently reviewing their past work and performance before deciding on the new roles they will take up. These officers are likely to be given important positions based on this evaluation.

Sources say Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is looking for a skilled and trustworthy officer to fill the position of GHMC Commissioner. The current commissioner, Amrapali, was relieved of her duties on Wednesday. Since the Chief Minister is focused on the development of Hyderabad, he wants a senior IAS officer with a strong track record to lead the GHMC.

Another important position, Secretary to the Energy Department, also needs to be filled. This vacancy was created after Ronald Rose was sent back to his native cadre in Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister is also reviewing the performance of Secretaries from key departments, like Commercial Taxes, Transport, Stamps and Registrations, Mining, and other revenue-generating departments. Secretaries who have not met the government’s expectations will be replaced by more efficient officers.

Once this reshuffle is carried out, the number of senior IAS officers holding multiple roles (Full Additional Charges or FAC) will be reduced. This, the Chief Minister believes, will help improve the efficiency of the administration.

Additionally, junior IAS officers who have been performing well in district-level roles might be brought to the state Secretariat. They could be assigned special tasks to help the government meet its revenue goals and deliver on promises made during the elections.
