Hyderabad: In a big move against drug-related crimes, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Maheshwaram Zone, along with the Adibatla Police, arrested a suspected drug peddler. The suspect was caught transporting and selling illegal drugs. The police seized about 1.5 kilograms of Ganja and 50 grams of OG Khush, which together are worth around Rs. 51,000.
The arrested person has been identified as Romi Bharath Kalyani, a 40-year-old man from Bandra West, Mumbai. According to the police, Romi has a history of involvement in drug crimes. After studying abroad, he initially worked in real estate when he returned to India. However, he later got involved with drugs again, making connections with other drug dealers, including a supplier from Kerala known as “Tobi.”
Police reports show that Romi has been arrested several times in the past. He was caught in 2004 for drug dealing and again in 2013 in an assault case. Most recently, in 2023, he was arrested in Goa for drug-related crimes but was released on bail just a month before his latest arrest.
The police started their operation on October 3, 2024, after receiving information about Romi’s activities. They found and arrested him in the Bonguloor area, where they also discovered the illegal drugs in his possession.
The police are now working to find Tobi, the Kerala-based supplier who provided Ganja to Romi.
This operation shows the strong efforts of the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate to fight drug trafficking and keep the public safe. The arrests were made under the guidance of Shri G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, and K. Muralidhar, DCP, SOT, LB Nagar – Maheshwaram.
The police are encouraging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking in their neighborhoods.
